カクテル

　カクテルは、1957年フランスのメイアンが作り出したバラの品種で,半つる性のシュラブ系のバラの品種です。　一重咲きの平咲きで、日本では樹高3ｍのツルバラとして栽培されることが多いそうです。

「バラ」と聞いてイメージする花はこんな感じではないでしょうか？

　ちなみに一重咲きのバラには、「敬意」「純潔な愛」「静かな愛」という意味があり、プロポーズにぴったりだという事ですが、

 一重咲きのものはバラだと分かってもらえない可能性があったりするようです。。

ですが一重咲きは野生のバラが持つ本来の花型で、通常５枚の花弁を持ちます

ということは一重の方がオリジナルなのですね！

　そして八重はどうなのかというと自然界では一重の花が突然変異したもの、園芸では人為的に人間が品種改良して、生まれたものだそうです。

紹介している「カクテル」も品種改良ものであったりもしますが…

さて、聖書の中にも『シャロンのバラ』というバラが出てきます。

どの種類のどんな花なのか、気になったので少し調べてみると。。

こちらは旧約聖書に書かれているバラで、「バラ」と訳されている言葉はヘブライ語なのですが、この語の意味ははっきりせず今日でも正確な植物が特定されていないのですって。この花かもと想像できる花はあるらしいですが、紹介しているバラとは全く違う花でした・・

ではなぜ「バラ」となったかというと..

 おそらくそれを翻訳する際、翻訳者（特にラテン語・英語圏）は、自分たちが知っていた最も美しい花＝「バラ」を当てたと考えられます。

つまり、「正体が不明な美しい花」→「じゃあバラにしよう」となったというわけですね！諸説ありますが、この説明が私にはしっくりきました😂

バラの花は、なるほどたくさんの人に美しい花！と愛されているということですよ！

ということで「シャロンのバラ」とは

「シャロンと言われるところに咲くとっても美しく誰からも愛される花」

といったところでしょうかね😍私訳…

Cocktail

“Cocktail” is a rose cultivar created in 1957 by Meilland of France. It belongs to the semi-climbing shrub type of roses.

With its flat, single-petaled blooms, it’s often grown as a climbing rose in Japan, reaching up to 3 meters in height.

When you hear the word “rose,” isn’t this the kind of flower that comes to mind?

Interestingly, single-petaled roses carry meanings like "respect," "pure love," and "quiet love," making them perfect for a proposal.

However, because of their simple shape, some people might not even realize they’re looking at a rose.

That said, single-petaled blooms are actually the original, natural form of roses—typically with five petals.

So in a sense, the single-petaled rose is more “authentic” than the layered varieties!

On the other hand, double-petaled roses (the ones with many layers of petals) are the result of a natural mutation in wild roses—or have been selectively bred by humans for ornamental purposes.

The “Cocktail” rose I introduced is also a cultivar developed through selective breeding.

Now, the Bible also mentions a rose—the famous “Rose of Sharon.”

Curious about what kind of flower it might be, I did a bit of research.

It turns out that this rose is mentioned in the Old Testament, but the Hebrew word translated as "rose" is rather ambiguous. Even today, scholars are not entirely sure which plant it refers to.

There are some flowers thought to be likely candidates, but they are completely different from the roses we think of today.

So why was it translated as “rose”?

Most likely, the translators—especially those working in Latin or English—substituted the most beautiful flower they knew: the rose.

In other words: “We don’t know what flower it was, but it must’ve been beautiful—so let’s just call it a rose!”

There are various theories, of course, but this explanation really made sense to me 😂

After all, roses are indeed beloved by many for their beauty!

So, the “Rose of Sharon” could be interpreted as:

“A flower so beautiful and beloved, growing in a place called Sharon.”

By the way, the “Cocktail” rose is blooming quietly even in this heat—along the inside of the fence near the north gate of the kindergarten.
