京都復興教会とそのえだ幼稚園園舎通路の間に立つ松の木が、冬の空気の中でも変わらず緑の葉を広げています。
寒さの厳しい季節にも色を失わない松の姿は、年のはじめにふさわしいドンとした佇まいです。
松はマツ科の常緑針葉樹で、日本では古くから庭園や神社仏閣、そして人々の暮らしの中で大切にされてきました。針のように細い葉を一年中保ち、厳しい寒さや風雪にも耐えながら、ゆっくりと年輪を重ねていきます。
その姿から、松は「変わらぬもの」「守り続けるもの」の象徴ともされてきました。
松の木は、成長が早いわけではなく。。
けれども、時間をかけてしっかりと根を張り、長い年月を生き抜いていきます。その静かな強さは、私たちに忍耐と希望を思い起こさせてくれます。
2026年最初の礼拝を迎えました。
今年の聖句には、詩編23編後半が選ばれています。
「命のある限り
恵みと慈しみはいつも私を追う。
私は主の家に住み続ける
とこしえに。」
（詩編23編6節）
一年の歩みを思うとき、私たちが先へ先へと進んでいくというよりも、
主の恵みと慈しみが、いつも後ろから、あるいは周囲から、
静かに、しかし確かに「追ってきてくださる」ことに支えられているのだと、
聖書は語ります。
今年2月、京都復興教会は創立80周年を迎えます。
松の木が長い年月をかけて育つように、この教会もまた、多くの祈りと支えの中で歩みを重ねてきました。喜びの時も、困難な時も、主は変わらず導き、恵みをもって包んでくださったことを覚えます。
新しい年が、
そして80周年の節目の年が、
ますます主の恵みに満ちた年となりますように。
松の木の変わらぬ緑を見上げ、
主がこれからもこの教会を養い、導き、守ってくださることを信じ、
感謝と祈りをもって歩み始めたいと思います。
Between Kyoto Fukkō Church and the passageway of Sonoeda Kindergarten,
a pine tree stands, spreading its green needles even in the cold winter air.
Unfading in the harsh season, the pine’s solid and dignified presence feels especially fitting for the beginning of a new year.
The pine is an evergreen conifer of the pine family.
In Japan, it has long been cherished in gardens, at shrines and temples, and in everyday life. Keeping its needle-like leaves throughout the year, it endures severe cold and wind, slowly adding ring upon ring to its trunk over time.
Because of this, the pine has often been regarded as a symbol of steadfastness and enduring faithfulness.
A pine tree does not grow quickly.
Yet, over time, it puts down deep roots and lives through many long years.
Its quiet strength reminds us of patience and hope.
We have now welcomed the first worship service of 2026.
For this year, the latter part of Psalm 23 has been chosen as our guiding Scripture.
“Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me
all the days of my life,
and I shall dwell in the house of the LORD
forever.”
(Psalm 23:6)
As we reflect on the year ahead, it is not so much that we move steadily forward on our own,
but rather that the Lord’s goodness and mercy are always with us—
sometimes behind us, sometimes surrounding us—
quietly, yet surely, following us and sustaining us, as Scripture tells us.
This February, Kyoto Fukkō Church will celebrate its 80th anniversary.
Just as the pine tree grows over many years, this church, too, has continued its journey through the prayers and support of many people. In times of joy and in times of difficulty alike, the Lord has faithfully guided us and wrapped us in grace.
May this new year,
and this milestone year of our 80th anniversary,
be filled ever more abundantly with the Lord’s blessings.
As we look up at the pine tree’s unchanging green,
trusting that the Lord will continue to nurture, guide, and protect this church,
we begin our walk once again with gratitude and prayer.
